There are a lot of qualities I admire in Mom, but one of the most important ones is her ability to make friends with everyone--the woman in the check out line, her seatmate on the airplane, the person sitting next to her at a concert, her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren. I also admire her strength in dealing with the many challenges she's had in life--and her faith. I like how she says, "I've always had a believing heart."
I loved getting to know Hermana Killian while I was a missionary in Vina Del Mar. I love that she is always positive and smiling. She gives the best hugs and looks you straight in the eye when she speaks with you. There is no question that she is paying full attention to you and that is genuinely interested and concerned. I hope I can be like her, even in a small way.
She makes you feel like you are so great! She has a way of listening and making you feel like you're important and that what you have to say is the most important thing at the moment.
There are too many qualities that I admire in Hna. Killian that I coudn't possible name them all: Her diligence in making all the missionaries feel loved through her dedication to learning a new language, her concern for our health, and her attention to the small details to make us feel at home. I vividly remember her lemon bars, frosted brownies, and cookies made for all of the missionaries during conferences. I don't remember a lot of what was said during those conferences, but I do remember how each of those treats tasted a little like home and how much I appreciated Hna. Killian's hard work to make them for all of us. She was truly engaged (and I'm sure is still engaged) in a labor of love.
She is always so sweet and nice but she is also the kind of woman who inspires respect. She does not need to say a word to demand it, there is something in her that makes you respect her, like you know you are in the presence of one superior to you.
I love Grandma's laugh and cheery disposition. Her laugh really is contagious... It lights up a room. I also admire her knowledge when it comes to canning things & food storage. I love to pick her brain and hear what has worked best for her.
El ánimo que siempre traspasaba, su determinación y esfuerzo por hablar español, y ese amor especial que se notaba en ella hacia su matrimonio y hacia el Pdte. Killian.
Happy Birthday Sister Killian!!! My family and me are very gratefully for the fruits of the your service... and always will be. sorry for mi english.

ReplyDeleteThere are lots of qualities I admire about Hermana Killian but the one that sticks out the most is her unpretentiousness. She is genuine and sincere.
ReplyDeleteHer soup-making ability! She can whip up a delectable soup out of thin air.
ReplyDeleteHer cooking abilities are awesome! Whether soup or cinnamon rolls or homemade bread she is amazing!
ReplyDeleteHer good humor. We wouldn't have half as much fun doing things together if we weren't giggling the whole time.

ReplyDeleteI love her sense of humor :) She really just always has a good time.
ReplyDeleteHer ability to always see the good in people. Also her weirdness. (i.e. doesn't like boots)
ReplyDeleteI like that she's not afraid to speak her mind. She manages to be happy without appearing insincere because of this,in my opinion.

Her continuous optimism and excellent humor. She doesn't skip a beat, even with Becca and me coming at her from both sides. :)
