Question #2

What is your favorite memory with Grandma?

  1. One of my favorite early memories with mom is of her making cinnamon rolls in the tiny kitchen of the house we lived in in Ogden. It seemed to me that all the neighbor kids were there watching her and she let us help sprinkle the cinnamon and brown sugar on the dough before she rolled it up. Her cinnamon rolls were/are legendary!

My favorite memories recently are of our trips to Pennsylvania to do family history. I love how she finds great joy trudging through cemeteries, digging through basement archives full of dusty documents, or rolling through microfilms of old newspapers looking for clues.

  2. My favorite memory was from my first day in Chile. We were at mission home and she and Presidente Killian were giving us an orientation of sorts... Hermana Killian was SO cute when she talked to us about health and safety. I had to call her a few times with inflamed pulga (flea) bites and she was so helpful and understanding. She was so good at speaking Spanish... it was obvious that she worked really hard at it!

  3. When Syd and I went on our Anne of Green Gables parties up at the cabin :)
Or the time she taught me how to make bread, but it obviously wasn't as good as hers...
OOH! And when she told me about her dating life, and how she met grandpa. Cutest story ever.

  4. I have lots of good memories of Mom. Some favorites are when she, dad and Scott came to pick me up in Puerto Rico. She had been taking a Spanish class at BYU and she wanted to show us what she had learned, so she was reading ALL of the road signs with an awesome accent :). It was pretty funny.
Another good one is when we tried so hard to get her to do triangle eyes during family home evening. She would get laughing so hard she would nearly wet her pants. Good times.

  5. I always remember the first time I met Hermana Killian. I was serving in the city of Ovalle in the north of the mission. Presidente and Hermana Killian took a tour of the mission shortly after arriving in Chile and came to the stake center in Ovalle. We were all wondering what the new mission president and his wife would be like. I remember standing outside the chapel in the courtyard with several other missionaries and Hermana Killian came over to talk to us. The thing that I most remember is how personable she was. She was kind and truly interested in getting to know each of the missionaries. That was my first impression of Hermana Killian and it has stuck with me ever since.

One other memory...just prior to a zone conference a companionship of Elders decided to cut each other's hair rather than paying a barber. In order to keep it from looking like they just shaved their heads, they left the bangs untouched but cut everything else with hair clippers. The problem was that their bangs had been bleached by the sun and were quite light while the rest was dark. It looked pretty bad. I remember Hermana Killian walking up to them and saying "Feo. Muy feo." She then instructed them to go to a barber following the conference to try and get it fixed. I've told that story numerous times over the past 15 years. Thanks for the fun memory Hermana Killian.

  6. One of the earliest memories I have of Grandma is when she took a balloon away from me and told me to go bed because I was acting crazy. I remember thinking she was mean but I'm sure my little self was just exaggerating the situation because she is so sweet to everyone.

A more recent memory I have is when I stopped by her house just to talk. It was a few weeks after I had gotten home from my mission and I was AWKWARD. So we just talked in her front room for awhile about everything.

Also, right before Cindy's parents went on their mission to Chile, we stopped by her house with them after a BYU baseball game. I loved how excited Grandma was that they were going to Chile. She talked about how much she loved her time there and how much they were going to love serving there. Grandma and Grandpa sent them a Spanish book while they were in the MTC as well. I felt proud to have both her and Grandpa as my Grandparents.

  7. One of my favorite memories is having me and my friends stay at her house for education week. So much fun!

I also love how Eric and her have a fun little bond, and we have so much fun talking altogether.

Which then leads me to the awesome night she "babysat" Eric when he was on Perkeset. That was hilarious!

  8. What ISN'T my favorite memory of Grandma Dottie? Please. When she found out I like making pies and bread...when she loaded me up with cooking supplies from her storage room...when we went to Tuacahn to see Cinderella and My Fair Lady...when we goofed around in Nauvoo...when we went to the Palmyra pageant... Wait. That hasn't happened yet. But it's going to be rocking awesome!

  9. One of my favorite memories of sister Killian is her delicious chocolate chip cookies, the best ones I've ever tried. It was the best part of the interviews with the president. Her brownies were great too :)

  10. My earliest memory is probably from when my parents abandoned their kids while taking a trip to Israel back in 1990. Grandma was a champ at taking care of us, even though I'm sure it was a major change to her life. Popsicles, riding my bike around the block over and over, playing in the tree in the front yard. Those are good memories.

Also the road trip to Indiana to pick up Becky back in 2004 was a blast. She's good at Trivial Pursuit. I think I won one game out of 10 we played.

  12. The road trip to Nauvoo was most definitely memorable- she has an iron bladder and I had to stop like every 10 minutes, we got lost but she was the one who got us back on track, and ate great food and read and shared stories and a couple of hotel rooms, hung out at the Vegas airport a few times but never drank or gambled.

Another great memory was my guy friends staying at her house for Education Week and how accommodating she was, even while 10 boys were overrunning her house.

  14. So many memories ...... One of my favorite was the time we spent in Nauvoo last year. And of course, two of our best favorite memories of all time are to come this summer: the Hill Cumorah Pageant and the Alaska cruise!
